Turn a Kindle into a second screen for your Mac.
--tone-mode 4gray --refresh-ms 333 kindle-screen serves a live capture of one Mac display over HTTP, so the Kindle's web browser on the same network can show it as a simple second screen. The Mac keeps rendering the real display; a small Rust server captures it in the background, converts it to Kindle-friendly grayscale and always serves the latest frame.
Install
- From source
cargo run --release
What it does
- Captures a chosen display with macOS screencapture, mouse cursor included, every 333 ms by default.
- Rotates, resizes and converts each frame for e-ink: grayscale, 4gray or bw, with optional contrast and sharpening.
- Open http://<your-mac-lan-ip>:3000 in the Kindle browser. Nothing to install on the Kindle.
What it leaves out on purpose
- No Kindle app or jailbreak: it is a web page the stock browser can open.
- macOS only, and the process that runs it needs Screen Recording permission.
